HESSEQUA NEWS - Wildfires on a farm in the Gouritzmond area have taken a heavy toll, killing 33 livestock and leaving 15 cattle with burn wounds.
Mopping-up operations are progressing well.
Gouritzmond South-West (Division-D)
Crews are deployed to this area, where aggressive mopping-up operations are conducted. There are no open flames, but areas are smoldering.
Crews present: GRDM and Hessequa WOF team.
Gouritzmond, South-East (Division-C)
Aggressive mopping-up operations towards Gouritsmond river towards the north-east are underway.
Crews present: GRDM, George & WOF
North-Eastern flank, (Division A) direction South (Vleesbaai side)
Mopping-up and fire suppression operations are ongoing, as well as a back burn tactic utilised.
Crews present: GRDM, Riversdale WOF and two farmers.
North (N2) to North-West (Gouritzmond - main) (Division B):
Mopping-up of all hotspots and patrolling for flare-ups around structures.
Crews present: GRDM, Hessequa Municipality Fire Department & Farmwatch.
Weather conditions:
Weather conditions remain relatively cool with decent overcast conditions, however the unstable wind conditions remain a threat and will keep Fire Fighting crews on high alert, with stronger winds predicted for later today.
