MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEO - It's watermelon season and this fruit is wonderfully refreshing on a hot day.
But the pips can be bothersome, if it is not a seedless watermelon.
To cut a watermelon, so that the seeds are easily removed, chop off both ends of it. Then cut the slices, longitudinally, all around. Cut to the first line of pips.
Because there is a ridge in the watermelon where the line of pips are, the slices "click" out easily at that ridge.
The pips will be in a neat row and you can slice off the row of pips easily.
What is left in the middle, is called the crown of the watermelon. This can also be sliced up.
