Jantjie Jonker, owner and wine maker, produces nine different table and dessert wines from grapes grown on the farm of which three won gold medals in the 2015 Michelangelo Awards. His Hanepoot was one of the wines to walk away with this prestigious award and it was also voted champion sweet wine in 2009 and took silver in 2012.
Jakkalsvlei’s ‘Pick Your Own Hanepoot’ harvest is fast becoming something of a tradition in the Garden Route and as Mossel Bay’s only wine farm, Jakkalsvlei Private Cellar proudly invites you to join in the festivities.
The idea of spending a day with your family in the vineyards has really caught on and last year those who brought a basket and scissors to do their own harvesting picked over 23 tons of Hanepoot grapes.
Jakkalsvlei’s Pick Your Own Hanepoot harvest runs until 20 March 2016 from 10am to 4pm seven days a week; the grapes are sold at R 6.50 per kilogram. Please bring your own scissors and baskets. The Estate’s newly opened Tasting Hall offers wine tastings, wine sales, craft beer, and a limited menu of ‘build your own’ pizzas, cheese platters, and picnic baskets (but you’ll need to bring your own picnic blankets!).
