GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Over the last nine years – including during the COVID period – the Carpe Musicam! Orchestra, Choir and other, smaller, groups have brought joy to thousands of Garden Route music lovers through the medium of orchestra, choral and chamber music.
This Saturday – 15 June – sees the official launch of their new “Pops Band” who will be helping put a spring in the step of shoppers at the Outeniqua Family Market and bringing the Carpe Musicam! touch to a whole new family of potential fans.
The Pops Band, which is viewed as a stepping stone towards the orchestra, caters for the musically “younger” musician who wants to improve their skills while rehearsing and performing with a group of enthusiastic musicians.
Led by Carpe Musicam! founders, Norman Carless and Elsabe Barkhuizen, the Pops Band consists of a core of more experienced musicians and a growing – in every way possible – group of “younger” musicians. (Three of these took prizes at the recently-held Young Musicians Competition held by the Geroge Music Society.)
As a matter of interest, the “younger” musicians range from 9 years old to well past the first flush of youth……
Their repertoire covers a multitude of styles, ranging from solid Dixieland-style numbers, to ballads and pop standards. The accent is on enjoyment, lightness and just pure, clean, musical fun. So.
Pop along to the Outeniqua Family Market this Saturday between 10:00 and 12:00 and get your goodies while enjoying the lively, cheeky and happy sounds of the Carpe Musicam! Pops Band.
The Carpe Musicam! Orchestra and Choir will be presenting their “Around the World in 80 Minutes” concerts in early July. For more details about these – and other Carpe Musicam! news, visit www.carpemusicam.co.za
