MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Da Gamaskop police are investigating several cases of armed robbery reported over the weekend and have confirmed that the investigation is progressing rapidly.
This follows after some of the stolen goods were retrieved. According to the police, as a result of the retrieval, arrests are imminent. This comes as a result of speedy follow-ups on information obtained and the commitment of members investigating the cases.
Alarmingly, two of the cases reported took place in the same street involving properties opposite each other.
On Saturday, 19 January at 00:45, a robbery took place at a guesthouse in Tornyn Street, De Bakke.
According to information obtained from the police, four people visiting Mossel Bay for the MossJazz Festival were sitting outside when they were accosted by three armed men.
The suspects gained access to the property by jumping over the fence and they managed to unlock the access gate to the stoep, where the guests were sitting. The victims fled to safety in the guesthouse, but the robbers succeeded in making off with the travel bags and other personal items to the value of about R25 000.
A couple were robbed by two men armed with pangas when returning to their home at Blue Waters on Louis Fourie Road, between De Bakke and Dias Beach, at 12:10 on Sunday, 20 January.
The couple were in the process of entering the house when the suspects accosted them. The suspects fled after robbing the couple of a cellphone, cash and a handbag, valued at about R2 500 in total.
On Monday, 21 January at 01:50 criminals struck in Tornyn Street again. Two men staying at a building site were robbed. The robbers gained access through the front entrance of the property, which is currently boarded up, because the front door has not been installed yet.
The victims woke, hearing noises, and found three suspects inside the property.
The suspects forced the victims back into the property and robbed them of their personal items to the value of R5 000, including a wallet, cellphone and shoes.
Traumatised by the incident, one of the victims jumped off a balcony to flee from the intruders. He injured himself as a result and was taken to a local hospital for medical care. The police confirmed that the victim has been released from hospital and is recuperating at home.
* The KwaNonqaba police arrested three suspects in connection with a house robbery in Solomon Street that took place on Saturday, 20 January at 03:30. Three armed suspects entered a property and robbed the occupants of four cellphones.
The suspects were apprehended over the weekend and appeared in court on Tuesday, 22 January.
