MOSSEL BAY BUSINESS NEWS - An award-winning company has opened its doors in town with a major emphasis on socioeconomic and skills development within the greater Mossel Bay area, with assistance from large enterprises, namely PetroSA, Eskom and Nestlé to make this vision a reality.
Midlands EIT is a level 2 BBBEE contributor and is 100% women owned.
The company is also ISO 45001 certified and has an impeccable safety record. Midlands EIT has been a service provider to Sasol for the past three decades, providing electrical, instrumentation and telecommunication construction and maintenance services to the petroleum giant.
The company has a sales division, which supplies everything pertaining to electrical, electronics, instrumentation and control systems, be it general consumables or specialised equipment and cables throughout all three disciplines - electrical, instrumentation and telecommunication.
Recently it won the supplier recognition award in 2018 for services provided throughout the Sasol group in appointed disciplines and was the only service provider within the fields of electrical, instrumentation, telecommunications, construction and maintenance to receive this award.
Recently Midlands EIT constructed a full-scale simulation plant for Flavious Mareka TVET College in Sasolburg, whereby first year students are able to get hands-on experience of the industry.
As Midlands EIT is a contractor for Sasol it made the necessary parties of Sasol's skills development centre aware of this full-scale simulator constructed for the TVET college, which resulted in the integration of industry and the educational institutions with first year students conducting their studies at the TVET College and completing their second and third years at Sasol before integrating directly into industry.
It is the vision of Midlands EIT to design and construct such a facility for the PetroSA Centre of Excellence as well as Southern Cape TVET College to bridge the gap between educational institutions and industry, which has been a great success at Sasol.
Furthermore, Midlands EIT would like to facilitate learners with an apprenticeship programme in the following trades: electrical, instrumentation and boiler making and hopes to work closely with the PetroSA Centre of Excellence as well as Southern Cape TVET College to qualify these artisans and integrate them into industry.
