The municipal manager’s position is approved by the full council, and the full council should ratify a decision to have a municipal manager vacate her office.
The Mossel Bay Advertiser learnt that the mayor this morning met with only a number of DA councillors, and that not all DA councillors were present. It was reliably learnt that not all of the DA councillors present supported the mayor’s decision to have the municipal manager vacate her office at such short notice.
Both the Chief Whip of the ANC Caucus in council, councillor Raynard Skombingo, and the ADCP councillor, Jeanette Gouws, confirmed that the mayor did not discuss her decision with them, either.
If arranged today, Friday 13 May, the earliest a special council meeting could possibly have been convened for, would be Wednesday, for the full council to decide on the merits of the mayor’s decision. A motion should be circulated to all councillors at least two days prior to a special council meeting.
The municipal manager, Dr Gratz, confirmed that the mayor gave no reasons for her shock decision.
The mayor said the director of Technical Service, Mr Dick Naidoo, was asked to act as municipal manager.
