MOTORING NEWS - Due to popular demand from vehicle owners and spectators, the second official Mossel Bay Wheels Gathering (MBWG) will be held on 16 December.
As in 2016, the event will be held in Heiderand in the open park on the corner of Melkhout and Seder streets, near the Mossel Bay Mall.
"I am happy to announce that a sponsor, Ravenol Oil SA, has come on board to lighten the financial burden of organising this event," said Dirk van der Merwe, who initiated the event in 2016.
Not to be confused with car shows hosted in neighbouring towns such as George and Knysna, MBWG is an informal gathering of people with unusual, rare and special vehicles.
"It is for people who are crazy about anything with wheels, regardless of age, model, make, condition or value. Yes, I mean so-called petrol heads."
It ranges from classic and vintage cars to beach buggies, motorcycles and the younger generations' customised sedans. The odd vintage tractor or two can also be expected, according to Van der Merwe.
"It is a gathering of owners with vehicles presented on static display. No entry fees are charged for either private entrants or visitors. However, donations to a charitable organisation are accepted. A marked box for this purpose will be at the registration gazebo."
This year, an added feature will be stalls selling vehicle-related products only.
Attendance certificates will be handed out to every entrant on the day, along with some sponsored items. Because the park has no trees or shading, entrants are encouraged to bring sun umbrellas, gazebos and camping chairs.
