NATIONAL NEWS - Chairperson of Parliament’s Justice Committee Mathole Motshekga says it's too early to say whether the Democratic Alliance (DA)’s complaints against the Public Protector have any merit.
The committee has come under fire from Luthuli House and African National Congress (ANC) chief whip Jackson Mthembu for agreeing to hold an inquiry into Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s fitness to hold office.
But Motshekga says that the committee has only decided that it is the appropriate forum to deal with the matter, and this does not mean it's in agreement with the concerns raised.
The DA says that Mkhwebane should be suspended pending the inquiry.
This is provided for in the Constitution when proceedings to dismiss a Public Protector get underway.
