FOOTBALL NEWS - The Blue Sharks have endured a disappointing qualifying campaign thus far losing their first two matches against Senegal and Burkina Faso.
A 2-0 defeat to Senegal in Dakar last October, was followed by a disappointing 2-0 loss to Burkina Faso in Praia the following month.
As a result, Cape Verde are place fourth on the Group D standings without a single point. They are three points behind third-placed Senegal.
Cape Verde coach Lucio Antunes, who was reappointed ahead of the World Cup qualifiers, will be hoping mastermind the Blue Sharks' first ever win over South Africa.
The two nations have met three times and South Africa emerged victorious twice, while one match ended in a goalless stalemate.
Cape Verde's experienced midfielder Babanco is confident that they can record their first victory in Group D against South Africa.
“The time has come to turn around our situation and start winning the games again‚” Babanco said.
"South Africa is a very strong team‚ but through our work and dedication we have been demonstrating that we will achieve our goals."
Meanwhile, South Africa began their qualifying campaign with two positive results against Burkina Faso and the much-fancied Senegal.
Bafana Bafana drew 1-1 with Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou last October, before registering a 2-1 win over Senegal in Polokwane the following month.
