MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A dog, whose collar had become ingrown and was cutting deep into his neck, was brought to the SPCA in Mossel Bay by a D'Almeida resident.
A SPCA vet performed surgery immediately. The collar was so deeply imbedded in the dog's neck, he was unable to eat.
The so-called collar was actually a thin piece of rope that had been tied around his neck as a puppy.
He was so weak from starvation due to this strangling 24cm collar that he couldn't walk and his skin was in a terrible condition.
The dog was so hungry that while the SPCA vet was cutting his hair before surgery the dog tried to eat the clumps of matted, infection-ridden hair. The woman from D'Almeida took the dog away from his owner because she could see he was in an extremely bad state. Fortunately, after successful surgery, good food and six weeks of tender loving care at the Mossel Bay branch of the Garden Route SPCA, he recovered very well and became very friendly.
The staff at the SPCA all fell in love with him and were delighted when he was adopted by a Mossel Bay resident. He is thriving with his new family.
