MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Criminals in the Mossel Bay area should take heed, the South African Police and community have had enough and are working extra hard to quell the scourge of violent crimes in especially the KwaNonqaba policing area.
"Gone are the days of muggers, robbers, drug dealers and rapists getting away with their heinous crimes," says the officer commanding Da Gamaskop Police Cluster, Brig Gerard Jantjies.
Under the direct command of the Brigadier, Operation Kwanele was recently launched to address the spiraling incidence of especially violent crime. The project is a collaboration to between the SAPS provincial and national command and the Da Gamaskop Cluster.
"Crime intelligence has indicated certain areas where there has been a spike in especially violent crimes. Operation Kwanele will primarily focus on this area," Brig Jantjies told the Mossel Bay Advertiser.
Several police officers were sourced from other stations to bolster the capacity of the KwaNonqaba Police Station to specifically focus on a dedicated area to reduce crime in general and violent crimes in particular.
"I implore the Mossel Bay community and especially the families living in Asla Park and the greater KwaNonqaba area to assist the police in this crime prevention initiative. It is only with the help of the community that we can break the yoke of crime.
"We are dedicated to make the roads safe for women and children to again freely walk the sidewalks without fear for their lives.
"We know the community knows who the drug traders in their area are. We respectfully ask them to hand us that information, so that we can collectively safeguard our children from becoming drug addicts. Operation Kwanele will focus on spaza shops selling drugs on the sly, and we will clamp down on the trade in Tik, one of the most devastating drugs available on our streets today," Brig Jantjies warned.
He added that the improved policing capacity will serve to assist Lt Col Braaff, officer commanding KwaNonqaba Police, in fighting crime in the area.
"Although two dedicated officers are deployed to assist with visible policing in the dedicated area, the station's Visible Policing Unit will continue its important work undeterred. I invite the public to still use the office of Lt Col Braaff and Capt Wolmerans of the KwaNonqaba police to lodge their complaints.
A special investigative team was formed under the command of the experienced, stalwart Captain Tekkie van Rensburg. He told the Mossel Bay Advertiser that he is excited about the operation and the team he commands.
"We are reinvigorated. The team and I approach this operation with the hope of making a real difference in the lives of the people we serve."
"However, it is only with the help of the local community that Operation Kwanele will achieve great success. All criminals have family and friends who know of their illegal pursuits. It is in the best interest of the community that crimes or intended crimes be reported. The KwaNonqaba Police will handle all information received in the strictest confidence and positive information may be rewarded."

"My door is always open to the public. The first place to report a problem remains the applicable station, but where necessary, I will do my best to ensure effective service delivery in the Da Gamaskop Police Cluster," the Brigadier concluded.
