Pinnacle Point Caves
Mossel Bay's greatest claim to fame - currently the earliest evidence in the world of modern human behaviour - stones that were made for cutting, using other stones and using fire - are being ignored by the townsfolk. Mossel Bay also boasts the oldest midden - consisting of shells and bones - on planet earth. These finds - at the Pinnacle Point Caves - date to between 72 000 and 162 000 years ago - and one can touch and handle them - but less than 1% of Mossel Bay residents have been to see them.
