Hoewel toestemming Dinsdagmiddag van die relevante staatsdepartemente bekom is om die riviermonding oop te maak, kon die beskikbare meganiese toerusting weens die inkomende gety nie veilig tot by die monding vorder nie. Dit het egter nie die Mosselbaai munisipale bestuurder, 'n klompie raadslede, verteenwoordigers van die Hartenbosrivier Forum en S.M.A.R.T. gekeer om self in te spring om die riviermonding met grawe oop te maak nie.
