Zuma's daughter ‘awarded lucrative tender’

President Zuma's daughter, Thuthukile Zuma.

MOSSEL BAY NEWS - President Zuma's daughter, Thuthukile Zuma, has been awarded a high profile tender as a supplier to a prominent local company involved in the exploration and production of oil and natural gas.

Four different sources, all well-placed, highly qualified and reliable, have confirmed this. But the company had not confirmed or denied this at the time of going to press.

The tender is to transport diesel to Mossel Bay on a daily basis. As many as ten diesel trucks were standing inside the premises last week delivering diesel.

A service provider to the company told Christo Vermaak, news editor of the Knysna-Plett Herald, the following:

"I asked the workers who the contractor transporting the diesel was and then saw the one employee calling me aside."

According to the service provider the employee told him the tender was awarded to Thuthukile Zuma, a daughter of President Zuma.

Immediately prior to this, Thuthukile was the chief of staff in the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services.

She is the youngest of President Zuma's four daughters with his ex-wife Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

Comment from the company’s spokesperson, Thabo Mabaso, had not been received at the time the Mossel Bay Advertiser went to press. The company was given fair opportunity to respond telephonically as well as via email.

Vermaak was referred to Mabaso for comment. He refused to comment telephonically and a detailed inquiry was sent for his attention on Tuesday, 22 March.

The Department of Minerals and Energy, responsible for issuing the licenses to transport diesel and gas also could not give clarity on the tender issue. In the Minerals and Energy media office in Pretoria, Ramokgobathi Maropeng, was given the call from Vermaak in order to answer it as the communication official, but Maropeng said he knew nothing about the works of the mentioned company and gave an email address to which inquiries should be sent.

Vermaak agreed to email the questions and did so in good time, but a response had not been received at the time of going to press.
