The world’s fastest land animal is rapidly losing its race against extinction. With fewer than 7 500 cheetah remaining in the wild and only 9% of its historical range left, the species faces urgent threats from habitat loss, trafficking and human-wildlife conflict. On International Cheetah Day, Wild Africa highlights the critical need for protection before Africa’s most endangered big cat disappears forever. Across the Horn of Africa, a powerful conservation turnaround is underway. Working with the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) and the Government of Somaliland, Wild Africa is part of a groundbreaking shift from reactive rescues to proactive conservation. Through public awareness campaigns, community education, ranger training and stronger enforcement against trafficking, partners on the ground are helping reduce illegal wildlife trade to safeguard the future of this iconic predator.
