In this interview leading animal disease expert, Dr Danie Odendaal makes an impassioned plea to government to allow farmers and their workers to administer Foot and Mouth Disease vaccines themselves - under the supervision and training of private vets.He says this is the only way farmers can vaccinate their herds fast enough to prevent an even worse catastrophe. "We have such a big job to do: we must save the farmers and their herds NOW! Only then can we look at the future and at getting South Africa declared FMD free. Let the farmers and workers vaccinate their herds! It was done in Brazil, and can be done here." He spoke to Ilse Schoonraad in the Group Editors studio during a quick visit to the Garden Route.
