It is with some distress that I note that the municipality has granted itself a 15% property rates increase.
This is, as far as I know, more than double the annual CPIX. Most people usually only get annual increases equal to CPIX, so will have to cut their budget somewhere to afford this increase in rates on top of the massive electricity increase.
I would have accepted this increase without comment, but I reported that my water meter was leaking.
The municipality sent five people including two ladies out in a double cab bakkie more than a week later to change the meter.
One person dug out the meter and four watched. As they did not have a spare meter, they had to return to town to fetch a new meter and it was installed later in the day.
I have to ask if this is good use of my municipal rates, and can the municipality not do better with the resources available to it, without this massive increase.
