The 2019 George Strawberry Festival promises entertainment for the whole weekend!
Live performances by local artists on the RSA Group Music Stage will keep your feet tapping next to the SAB Beer Garden while you enjoy refreshing beverages. Rugby fans can even keep score of the World Cup match on Saturday. Test your skills in the McDonald's Games Garden where you can play oversized classics such as Giant Bowling, Giant Jenga, Giant Dominoes or even a sophisticated game of croquet.
In the Redberry Farm Strawberry Stomping competition you can stomp your way to winning great prizes, or for a more tranquil setting, pick your own strawberries in Redberry Farm's strawberry fields. Kids will not have a minute to spare with a huge line-up of activities and competitions specially for them.
The Trail Run powered by Outeniqua Refrigeration and CrossFit's Fittest in the Garden Route competition will help you work up an appetite for the tremendous variety of food experiences on offer. Celebrity Chef François Ferreira is a big attraction at the Strawberry Food Theatre where he will devise appetising recipes incorporating strawberries.
The Outdoor Country Market is filled with handcrafted products and exquisite food to tantalise your taste buds. For a berry-licious experience visit the Strawberry Emporium that will serve strawberry eats and treats all weekend long.
Laughter and fun go hand-in-hand with the sweet, sticky berry fun of the Strawberry Eat-Offs where adults and kids can let the rules of civilised eating fly for the moment. Get together at the Redberry Farm Family Stage for the Kids Strawberry & Ice-cream Eat-Off where the winner is the one who is the first to devour a bowl full of strawberries and an Ola ice-cream. Celebrity chef François Ferreira will prepare a new set of strawberry-inspired dishes at the François Ferreira Strawberry Food Theatre in collaboration with Gastaos. Here is a favourite from last year’s Strawberry Festival:
STRAWBERRY CAPRESE SALAD:
45ml Balsamic Vinegar
1 small garlic clove, minced
15ml light brown sugar
Large pinch of salt
Large pinch of freshly ground pepper
45ml olive oil
125ml chopped fresh basil
150g small diced mozzarella cheese
750g halved fresh strawberries
Garnish: thinly sliced fresh basil
Whisk together white balsamic vinegar, minced garlic, brown sugar, salt, and freshly ground pepper in a large bowl until sugar is dissolved.
Add olive oil in a slow, steady stream, whisking constantly until smooth.
Add 1/3 cup chopped fresh basil and mozzarella cubes; toss to coat. Cover and chill for two hours.
Stir in strawberries; let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve over fresh arugula or as an appetiser with toasted French bread baguette slices. Garnish with thinly sliced fresh basil.

Kids can run wild in the Frogfoot Kids Play Park and literally bounce off the walls with an array of inflatables such as the Gladiator, Rockets, Giant Slide and many more.
The Redberry Farm Family Stage has an entertaining line-up including the Miss Strawberry pageant, Mascot Parade, magic tricks as well as a performance by the lively Lollos! Enjoy old favourites like the Redberry Express Mini Train, pedal go-carts, pony rides, bubble balls, wooden playground as well as feeding the furry bunnies.
Energetic festivalgoers can get their heart rate up and flex some muscle in the sport events at the George Strawberry Festival presented by Ola.
Runners and walkers participating in the Trail Run powered by Outeniqua Refrigeration will enjoy Redberry Farm's magnificent landscape. The 5km fun run/walk is perfect for families with children over the age of 9 and this year's route has some new curves and bends added. Athletes older than 13 can enjoy the 9km trail run that winds through beautiful strawberry fields with the majestic Outeniqua Mountains as a backdrop. Medals, cash, spot prizes as well as goodie bags are up for grabs for the first 100 runners. Be at the starting point at 09:00 for the 9km trail run and 09:15 for the 5km fun run/walk. By entering beforehand, you qualify for the discounted pre-entry fees at R90 for the 5km fun run/walk and R110 for the 9km trail run. On-the-day entries will not be accepted.
The CrossFit Fittest in the Garden Route competition makes for captivating viewing when competitors give their utmost as they are tested to the limit in all aspects of functional fitness. They battle it out in weightlifting, gymnastics and cardio. It has become a favourite event among the fittest and strongest from Plettenberg Bay to Mossel Bay and draws large crowds.
