Mom & daughter attacked

Mom & daughter attacked
Ester Rutter and her daughter, Ulrieke Rutter, left for Struisbaai a day after they were attacked at their place of accommodation in Mossel Bay.
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay police are still on the lookout for a male suspect after two visitors to town were attacked in their room at an accommodation facility in George Road.

According to Mossel Bay Police Station spokesperson Wo Pieter Koekemoer, the victims - a mother and daughter, Ester Rutter (64) and Ulrieke Rutter (30) - booked in on 13 March and were enjoying a drink when an unknown male walked up to them and asked them if everything was okay.

"He asked the Rutters if he could check the bedroom and entered their flat. The two women were under the impression that the man was a security guard." Wo Koekemoer said Ulrieke was working on her laptop while Ester was sitting outside, enjoying the view of Santos Beach.

"The suspect called Ester inside and held his hand underneath his brown jacket, pointing towards them, as if he had a gun."

Ulrieke told the Mossel Bay Advertiser they could smell liquor on the man and realised that he didn't really have a gun, but that he was only pointing with his finger. "We tried to push the man to the outside and locked the door. He, however, broke the window in the door frame, broke the lock and opened the door from the inside.

He punched my mother in the face." Ulrieke says she and her mother again attacked the man with their bare hands, screaming for help, before he fled. "It was a matter of survival." Nothing was taken in the incident.

Ulrieke says she lives overseas and is currently on a road trip with her mom, who is from Pretoria, "to explore our lovely country".

"We are on holiday, but this was such a shocking experience that we, unfortunately, will not visit here again." She says although the police and everyone else were helpful, it is sad that she and her mom could not relax and enjoy the beautiful ocean view.

The owner of the accommodation facility says she is shocked by what happened.

Police are looking for a 35-year-old suspect, who is of medium height and of slender build. Anyone with information can contact Const Delport (044 606 2850).

Voting Poll
It is soon to be suggested to the Mossel Bay municipal council that all sports stadium names should be changed to honour local sporting heroes. Do you support the notion?
YES: Current names are non-descriptive and more should be done to honour local people who have left a great sporting legacy.
Mossel Bay Advertiser 9%
NO: Keep the names of the stadiums as they are; it is too costly to change maps already depicting these names.
