Lantern March for children almost here
The Lantern March for children is an autumn tradition in Germany. Here are the children in Hannover, Germany, photographed during the march. The Rotary Club of Mossel Bay will host the first ever Lantern March in South Africa on Friday, 3 August
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Rotary Club of Mossel Bay is hosting a Lantern March for children in view of the betterment of others within the Mossel Bay community.

This event, taking place on Friday, 3 August, starts from Kingfisher and Delfino's restaurants at the Point, a sponsor of this Rotary project.

This project, proposed by Nata Dreijer, an Honorary Rotarian of the Rotary Club of Mossel Bay, is a first for South Africa, but springs from a German tradition. During this traditional march taking place every autumn, children of all ages take to the streets after sunset, singing as they walk, while being led by a marching band.

"The theme 'Hearts and lights for children' is to raise awareness that by giving more love and time to our children, we can only reap the benefits of helping them become more confident and happier young people," says outgoing president of the Rotary Club of Mossel Bay, Kate Barker.

"I hope the community of Mossel Bay will take time with their children and grandchildren to support this project."
Due to the fluctuating weather in Germany on Lantern Day, battery operated lanterns have been made available on the market to replace the candle versions.

For the Mossel Bay Lantern March, Nata especially ordered lanterns that operates on two 1.5V batteries, sponsored by Varta in Germany.

The lanterns are selling very well and cost R90 per unit or R500 for six lanterns. Any enquiries can be directed to Nata at 073 619 1733 or Kate at 083 988 0419. All funds will go towards the community projects run by the Rotary Club of Mossel Bay.
